Consulting
AAC support for families and SLPs from Alyssa Croll, MS, CCC-SLP, an SLP and Assistive Technology Specialist based in Palm Beach County, Florida. Sessions are virtual, or in person locally when available.
Sound familiar?
• The device came home, and now it mostly sits in a drawer or the backpack.
• You were told to “just model,” but no one showed you what that looks like at dinner or bath time.
• School uses it one way, therapy another, and home is somewhere in the middle.
• You’re not sure if the system is the right fit, or if your child just needs more time and support.
• You’re worried you’re doing it wrong.
You’re not behind, and you’re not doing it wrong. Most families were handed a device without a plan. That’s what I’m here to help with.
AAC works when the people around the child use it.
AAC is a new language. Like any language, it's learned through immersion: all day, in real routines, with the people who matter most. It isn't learned in a 30-minute session once a week.
I'll be honest with you, because you deserve that. Supporting a child with a disability asks more of a family. That isn't a judgment; it's the reality. Think of it like physical therapy: the exercises you do at home between sessions drive the progress. AAC works the same way.
That doesn't mean you need to be an expert, do it perfectly, or burn yourself out. It means we figure out what's realistic for your family, start where you are, and build from there together.
For Families
AAC Assessment
Not sure which system fits your child, or whether the one they have is right? I'll look at how your child communicates, their access needs, and what matters to your family. Then you'll get clear, practical recommendations.
Implementation Coaching
Coaching for parents, caregivers, and everyone in your child's life. It covers how to model, how to fit AAC into real routines like meals, bath time, and car rides, and what to try when it's not clicking.
For SLPs
Case Consultation
Got a tricky case? Maybe a student who isn't progressing, a team that isn't on board, or a system you're unsure about. We'll talk it through and get you a plan.
What you're investing in
An assessment is more than a test. A comprehensive AAC assessment includes getting to know your child and your family's routines, observing how your child communicates now, matching their needs to the right features and access method, hands-on trials with systems that fit, a detailed written report you can share with your child's team, and a results meeting to walk through it all together.
A device is a tool, not the intervention. AAC devices and apps are a real investment, and too many end up in a drawer because no one got support using them. Coaching is what turns the device into communication your child actually uses, at home, at school, and everywhere in between.
Specialized experience. I'm an SLP and Assistive Technology Specialist who works with AAC every day, including with communicators who use eye gaze, switch scanning, and partner-assisted scanning. You get support from someone who knows the systems, the research, and the real-life barriers families run into.

Frequently asked questions
Do you take insurance?
Services are private pay. Step Up For Students FES-UA scholarship funds are accepted.
Can I use my FES-UA scholarship?
Yes. I'm an approved FES-UA provider, so we can talk through how to use your scholarship funds for assessment or coaching.
Does my child need to be at every coaching session?
Not always. Some sessions are just for parents and caregivers, so we can plan and practice. Others work best with your child there, so I can model and coach in real time.
My child doesn't have a device yet. Where do we start?
Start with a free discovery call. Depending on what's going on, we'll talk about an initial consultation or a comprehensive AAC assessment.
Do you work with all AAC systems and access methods?
I work across many systems and access methods, including direct touch, eye gaze, switch scanning, and partner-assisted scanning.
Consulting is available to Florida families, with other states considered case by case. Because I work for the School District of Palm Beach County, I'm not able to provide private services to students currently enrolled in the district.
